Once You Go Flat You Never Go Back

In a surprising rebellion against centuries of incontrovertible scientific proof, rapper B.o.B. has taken to Twitter to reveal that the Earth is not spherical but instead is a flat disk suspended in space. His statements, following on from previous posts revealing his thoughts on human cloning and the faking of the Moon landings, mirror those of the Flat Earth Society.

A belief in the flat Earth theory is difficult to understand. Leaving aside the fact that B.o.B has presumably spent any overseas flights he has made with his eyes tightly shut, evidence for the roundness of the Earth can be found everywhere.

The tilt of a spherical Earth explains the seasons and the ice ages; the varying lengths of shadows on the ground and the tracking of stars across the night sky only make sense if the Earth is curved.

Space photography is another key counter-argument, but Flat Earthers have a deep distrust of NASA, believing that all images of space are photoshopped in a elaborate ploy to make money out of the trusting public audience.

They also warn against travelling to Antarctica because if you pass the icy ring at the boundary of the Flat Earth you will fall off.

B.o.B.’s Twitter feed is populated with photos of cities and horizons with captions such as “where is the curve?”, clearly fuelled by a belief that if he cannot see the curvature of Earth at all times then the only explanation is that it must be flat.

Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson tried to intervene but B.o.B. remained unswayed, telling his followers that he was sorry and “didn’t wanna believe it either” but that they needed to “grow up”.

When met with further contradiction, he responded by saying that “if my tweets are rattling the tiny little cages of your reality…the unfollow button is right there” before challenging Tyson to a rap battle.
